Anyone Can Draw

For example, if you take up game development versus game art, you don't require much knowledge about character designing, art and sketching because you are developing games and not game art. In the field of game development, you create various levels of games while as a game art designer, you have to create the game’s characters, game’s assets and other necessary icons. Thus, game art designers need good knowledge of drawing and sketching to thrive in their field.

While most of us are aware of 3D and 2D Animation and Graphics, the AVGC Industry consist of many career paths from pre-production to post-production. Streams in the AVGC Industry require basic knowledge of drawing and sketching include UI/UX web designing, Graphic Designing, VFX, post-production work and sometimes production work with regards to video editing, audio editing, 3D Animation etc.

Other animation fields like character designing, character modeling, 2D pre-production, storyboarding, layout, background designing, motion graphics, logo designing, digital painting or matte painting require full proficiency in drawing and sketching.

Many gamers who grew up playing games and watching anime shows want to work in the

AVGC industry, and based on my prior experience in this field, they are even making a good

living. If you are an anime/manga fan or you love to play any sort of video or versatile game you

can comprehend its activity pipeline better than some other individual.

Drawing does remain a fundamental skill in the animation industry particularly in traditional and 2D animation spheres. However, with the advancement of technology, there are various forms of animation that don't necessarily require traditional drawing skills. With the rise of computer-generated imagery (CGI) and 3D animation, artists can use software tools to create animations without traditional drawing skills. 3D modeling and animation software have become prevalent in the industry.

Let’s also not forget today we are much more technically capable to deal problems related to drawing and sketching skills. Many software support beginners to use traditional and classical level of drawing and sketching. One can undo mistakes or redo the sketching at any level of the character design and achieve desired results.

Today there are many institutes that give quality schooling about the animation industry. The fundamental objective is to make industry prepared animators to satisfy the rising interest of this industry. Students are taught basic drawing skills so they could do better in the field.

Having said that, you will ask - Can one be taught drawing?

The answer again is YES, anyone can draw. Think back  to when you were a child and how your nursery teacher taught you how to write the alphabet. If you can write the alphabet, you can also draw. The only difference is that you weren't taught how to draw at the time, so you didn’t learn.

Enrolling in a degree program in animation is similar to enrolling in a nursery school, it's your first year of learning, and a good pre-production teacher will take good care of beginners and teach them animation from basic shapes, fundamental figures, and basic stick figures. Therefore, anyone can comprehend and produce high-quality drawings with practice.

Drawing and sketching additionally trains you to comprehend the entire pipeline of the activity cycle and you can perform better and it likewise grows better profession choices for you in the growing industry.

Happy Drawing & Sketching!
